What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing the product

Apple Mac

I learnt how to screengrab and as i was new to a mac i had to get used to how the mac worked compared to a Windows PC. e.g. screengrabbing audience evaluation from facebook and stills of my media product

iMovie HD

I used to this application to edit my film and add sound to my film e.t.c. i learnt how to use transitions to give a certain effect such as cross dissolving into different scenes. With iMovie HD i also learnt how to fit a soundtrack into my media product and to edit so that it went well with certain scenes e.g. music slowing down as Blake leaves the house. Overal iMovie HD helped me with my editing skills and helped me learn more techniques for future use.

Blogger

As i was quite new to blogging this website taught me alot. I learnt how to create and upload blogs easily and learnt more advanced such as embedding videos and presentations from slideshare, youtube e.t.c. I also learnt things such as adding gadgets and links to my blog page such as links to my research and planning blogs.

Slideshare

I learnt the general idea of uploading my presentations and word documents onto slideshare and then embedding them onto my blog page e.g. Evaluation Powerpoint presentations

Sony Camcorder

I used this to film my media product but during filming i didnt use many adavanced options on the camcorder as for one it didnt offer many and also that i could edit my shots easily on iMovie HD. In filming i mostly zoomed in and zoomed out but the first time i shot my film i didnt use a tripod and therefore i learnt how to hold the camera more steadily.

Youtube

I used this media application to upload my media product - and i learnt the basic idea of how to upload videos onto youtube - but on the iMacs i came up against up many problems just to upload videos on to youtube so it wasnt as simple as it was ment to be.

How did you attract you're target audience?

Audience feedback

These are the questions that is asked my audience:
- What genre do you think the film is ?
- How does the camera work/editing make you feel ?
- Does the music give an eerie feel ?
- What do you think of the main character ? Hero or Villain

From this feedback it is clear i was able to intrigue my audience with the music i chose as i used it to build a tense atmosphere - so from this perspective i reached my target audience and was able to please my audience.

Storyline - Music - Editing - Mise en sene

The story line's of the opening sequence was to create suspense and mystery as the viewer would be left thinking if Blake murdered the owner of the house if so and why ? So this complies with the target audience of Psychological thrillers who look for suspense, mystery e.t.c and like to be intrigued and want to work out the details of what occurs in the film. In my film i put effort into creating suspense and an eerie atmosphere to reel in my target audience. To create this feel in my editing i chose to cut between shots by using the transition cross dissolve in to the next shot - which added to the tense and eerie atmosphere which was further complimented by the music.

Music used : Cannibal Ox - A B Boys Alpha(instrumental) - Link to song : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5PJ89oarsrg

In my film you see Blake sitting in his car in someone's driveway which makes the viewer question why he's there and why he seems to be checking his watch for the time - this helps attract my target audience as it intrigues them and makes the question the events that are taking place which is a common trait within the viewers of Psychological thrillers.

The audience sees Blake walking to the house with a pen held his hand which intrigues the viewer and makes them question why he seems to need a pen in his hand as he his going to someone's house. The manner in which Blake's holding the pen may make the viewer question his intentions and want to know why he is holding the pen. All of these events and props further intrigue my audience which again helps me attract my target audience.

The sunglasses that blake is wearing co notates that his character may be hiding something or may be a facade in his character again this adds to the mysterious atmosphere of the opening sequence.

All of these aspects compliment the conventions of a Psychological thriller which confirms i was able to attract my target audience and the feedback from the audience confirms that they were able to understand what i was trying to portray in my media product and were able to feel the atmosphere i was trying to create within my media product.

Camera Angles/Shots

I used different camera angles/shots to create a tense atmosphere and to intrigue my audience - i did a few extreme close-up' of my characters to unsettle my viewer which complies with the conventions of the genre - this method is also used in other psychological thrillers i analyzed which inspired filming techniques used in my film.

In comparison to my shots :

Much of the mise en sene used in my media product was influenced by the films i analysed as i went for the all black look as of reservoir dogs :

What kind of institution would distribute your media product and why ?

Blake - My Media Product

Taxi Driver

In my research blog i researched for many distributing companies who had distributed psychological thrillers then narrowed the search with aspects of my own film for example a low-budget film. In my research i looked at Miramax films, The Weinstein Company and Dimension releases. At first i was thinking about using Miramax films as it had distributed many psychological thrillers which also included some of the films i had analyzed e.g Reservoir Dogs and other films such as Kill Bill Vol.1 and 2. But then i went again this decision as all these films were distributed whilst the founders were still in the company. But in the end i decided to go against Miramax films and i chose The Weinstein Company as the founders left MIramax and made The Weinstein Company - i was driven towards using The Weinstein company as whilst they were in Miramax they chose to distribute many psychological thrillers so i thought they would be more likely to distribute my film as it is a psychological thriller - which complies with the conventions of my genre.
